Dr Aidan O’Neill
Consultant Rheumatologist
Dr O’Neill is a Consultant Rheumatologist based in Antrim Area Hospital. He leads the Northern Trust’s osteoporosis fracture prevention service and co-developed their rapid access Rheumatology service. He is the lead fellow presenting Northern Ireland for the Royal College of Physicians (London), a role in which he engages with a range of organisations to improve conditions for doctors and patients across the region. He is also an honorary lecturer for Queen’s University Belfast.
He studied medicine at St George’s, University of London, before returning to Northern Ireland to begin his medical training in 2009. After obtaining membership in the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2013, he began training in rheumatology and was appointed as a consultant at the Northern Trust in 2019. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 2023.

Dr O’Neill specialises in rheumatology, managing adults with conditions such as inflammatory arthritis (e.g., Rheumatoid Arthritis), connective tissue diseases (e.g., Lupus), fibromyalgia, gout, vasculitis, osteoporosis and polymyalgia rheumatica.
He is also experienced in administering local joint and soft tissue injections, along with the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound scanning.
