Joe Clarke
Neurodevelopmental Paediatrician
A community paediatrician specialises in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of developmental, behavioural, and social issues affecting children from infancy through adolescence. My expertise lies in supporting children with complex developmental needs and coordinating care across health, education, and social services.
I commonly assess and manage conditions such as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delay, and learning difficulties. Community paediatricians also evaluate growth concerns, safeguarding issues, and the impact of chronic health conditions on a child’s daily functioning and school performance.
Dr Clarke is a Consultant Community Paediatrician who completed specialist training in Community Paediatrics in Northern Ireland. Since 2007, he has worked as a Consultant within the Western Health and Social Care Trust, where he currently serves as the Divisional Clinical Director for Paediatrics.
Dr Clarke has extensive experience in developmental and behavioural paediatrics, safeguarding, and supporting children with complex needs, with a strong commitment to improving child health services across the region. Dr Clarke was also awarded a Distinction in a Master’s degree in Paediatric Palliative Care, further strengthening his expertise in delivering compassionate, family-centred care for children with life-limiting conditions.
Dr Clarke is keenly interested in quality improvement, he recently completed the Scottish Quality and Safety Fellowship, which included an international learning visit to Brazil to explore approaches to quality improvement in resource-limited settings.
