X-Ray

What is a Private X-Ray Scan?

A private X-ray is a diagnostic imaging test used to examine bones, joints, and certain soft tissues inside the body. X-rays are commonly used to investigate pain, injury, swelling, or ongoing symptoms and can help identify a range of musculoskeletal and chest-related conditions.

At Mid Ulster Clinic, we provide private X-ray referral services for patients across Northern Ireland. Through our trusted imaging partners, we can help arrange fast access to private X-ray appointments without lengthy waiting times.

Who The Scan is For

A private X-ray may be recommended if you are experiencing symptoms such as:

  • bone or joint pain
  • swelling or tenderness
  • suspected fractures or injuries
  • reduced movement or stiffness
  • chest symptoms such as persistent cough or shortness of breath

X-rays are often used as a first-line investigation to help assess injuries, rule out underlying problems, or support further diagnosis.

If you do not already have a referral, you can arrange an assessment with one of our experienced GPs or consultants. Where clinically appropriate, we can organise your private X-ray referral and advise on appropriate next steps.

What The Scan Involves

Private X-rays are carried out by experienced radiographers at one of our trusted imaging partners in Northern Ireland. During the X-ray, you may be asked to stand, sit, or lie in different positions depending on the area being examined.

Before the X-ray, you may be asked about:

  • your symptoms and medical history
  • recent injuries or accidents
  • previous imaging
  • pregnancy status where relevant

Most X-ray appointments take only a short amount of time, although this can vary depending on the number of images required.

Once completed, the images are reviewed by a specialist radiologist and the results are sent to your referring clinician, who will explain the findings and discuss any further treatment or investigation if needed.

What The Scan Can Detect

Private X-rays can help identify a range of bone, joint, and chest conditions. Depending on the area being examined, X-ray imaging may help detect:

  • fractures and broken bones
  • arthritis and joint changes
  • dislocations
  • spinal alignment issues
  • chest infections
  • certain lung conditions
  • swelling around joints
  • signs of degeneration or injury
