Your Dermatology Consultation
Receiving a plan for cryotherapy at our clinic is carried out during your initial dermatology appointment, typically taking no more than 30 minutes. During this time, our dedicated specialists ensure your concerns are thoroughly addressed.
In your consultation, an experienced dermatologist will evaluate your medical history and the specific conditions you wish to address with cryotherapy. This session is designed to understand your needs fully and determine the most effective treatment plan. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, understand the procedure’s benefits and risks, and discuss what to expect during and after the treatment. Our goal is to ensure you feel informed and comfortable with the proposed care plan, tailoring our approach to align with your requirements.
How To Prepare for Cryotherapy
Preparing for cryotherapy involves several steps to ensure the treatment is as effective and safe as possible. Your consultant will guide you through the specific preparations tailored to your treatment plan.
1. Medical Review
Ensure all medical history and current medications are disclosed to avoid any complications during the treatment.
2. Skin Preparation
The area to be treated should be clean, dry, and free of any lotions, oils, or makeup to maximise the treatment’s effectiveness.
3. Clothing
Wear loose, comfortable clothing and remove any jewellery or metal objects near the treatment area to prevent any interference with the cryotherapy process.
4. Dietary Guidelines
Follow any specific dietary instructions provided by your consultant, which may include avoiding certain foods or beverages before the treatment.
How Cryotherapy Works
During a cryotherapy session, you may experience slight pain/ discomfort. The area may be red and or swollen following the treatment. This process induces a rapid cooling of the targeted area, leading to a constriction of blood vessels to remove the surface of the target area. Each session is quick, typically lasting only a few minutes. You will be advised if you need to make a review appointment for a further session of cryotherapy.
Cryotherapy Aftercare and Recovery
Following your cryotherapy session, our specialist will provide you with a personalised aftercare plan to ensure optimal recovery and maximise the treatment’s benefits. This plan is tailored to your specific needs and the nature of your treatment, ensuring you receive the most appropriate and effective guidance.
You may find following treatment that on occassion a blister will form at the site and you may notice some fluid discharge. This should settle within a few days. The area will form a crust or scale and then eventually heal. Usually the skin will return to normal but in some cases you may notice a small scar.
For aftercare you will receive a written leaflet on how to care for the treated area. There is a small risk of wound infection and it is therefore important to follow the aftercare instructions given by the dermatologist.
